Easter Sunday Planning

The most important holiday in the Christian calendar, Easter is a time of rebirth and celebration. Spring flowers are in bloom, the first hints of summer are in the air, and, yes, the Easter Bunny is all set to make an appearance. Make Easter 2019 a family affair with these simple family-friendly Easter tips.

Family Easter Planning

Whether you're planning an Easter brunch or dinner, a little advanced preparation makes the day go smoother. Invite family and friends a few weeks in advance, so you know how many people you’ll be feeding. If you have an idea of how many kids will be at the party, for instance, you'll be able to plan age-appropriate games and gift bags.

Make Easter 2019 less work-intensive by accepting people’s offers to bring food. If you plan in advance, you can organize your menu around what other people are bringing. Depending on your family and friends, you could act as the host of a potluck party for Easter 2019, where everyone contributes and you coordinate who brings which food items.

If you want to do the cooking yourself, but also want to keep things informal, host a brunch for Easter 2019 instead of a lunch or dinner. Make a waffle station with plenty of syrups and toppings, and let people make their own Easter waffle masterpieces. If the weather’s nice, why not take the party outdoors onto a patio or deck?

As for decorations, spring blooms are always appropriate for Easter. Or sit the kids down and have them make simple Easter decorations. A glass bowl filled with hand-decorated Easter eggs makes a great centerpiece, while kids can make placeholders from small craft basket “nests” filled with fake moss and two or three bite-sized easter eggs.

Family Easter Outfits

Traditionally, Easter was a time when children received new clothes for Sunday best and women wore elaborate new Easter hats and bonnets. Continue this tradition with your own family Easter outfits. Choose matching or complementary outfits from colorful springtime blues, pinks, and pastels, and make the entire family feel special.

Not all family Easter outfits have to be formal church clothes. If you're attending a large Easter egg hunt a set of customized family t-shirts makes it easier to keep tabs on your kids as they run around.

Family Easter Games

Easter 2019, like every Easter, is a time for chocolate, the Easter Bunny, and, of course, Easter egg hunts. If your children are toddlers, you can make it easier for them to find their chocolate treasures by attaching helium-filled balloons to plastic eggs filled with treats. Make Easter egg hunts more challenging for older children by giving them a list of clues hinting at where the eggs are hidden.

Decorating eggs is a fun Easter tradition for kids of all ages. Once decorated, use hard-boiled eggs for egg rolls. Either let eggs roll down a slope, or have egg races where family members push eggs along the ground using wooden spoons.

If Easter 2019 dawns bright and sunny, it’s a great day to dig out the outdoor summer toys. Let kids play with sidewalk chalk, toss a frisbee, or get the gang involved in a game of kickball to celebrate the good weather.

Family Easter Gifts

Christmas may be the holiday most associated with presents, but many families give Easter gifts as well. Chocolate bunnies, Peeps, and chocolate eggs are a given, of course, and the stores all stock pre-wrapped Easter baskets filled with toys. Those toys, however, are generally of pretty low quality. Creating your own baskets makes family Easter gifts much more interesting. Possible gifts to include in your children’s baskets include:

With a little preparation, Easter 2019 could be your family’s best Easter yet. Start planning now, brainstorm some cool family Easter games and gifts, and look into those new family Easter outfits, because the big day will be here before you know it!
