What makes puff printing different than regular screen printing is the type of ink that is used. Puff ink is made with a
heat-reactive foaming agent that makes the ink expand to give you that “Puffy” look when it goes through the dryer.
WHEN NOT TO USE PUFF PRINTING
- Your logo has very fine detail.
- Your logo has 8 or more colors or contains photography in the design.
- If you only need a few pieces.
- If you need something other than apparel printed, such as a promotional item or a specific type of bag.
- If the item you need cannot be heated past a certain temperature.
ADVANTAGES TO PUFF PRINTING
- Adds a 3D look to your logo and gives your design a new take on the popular screen print decoration.
- Raising portions of your logo are sure to draw attention!
- Much like regular screen print, this decoration method is extremely durable and should outlast what you put it on.
DISADVANTAGES TO PUFF PRINTING
- Small text and thin details are not effective with puff printing.
- Puff printing may require additional set-up fees for puff underbase screens, depending on if all or only parts of your logo will be puffed.
- Due to the added weight of puff print, it may not be suitable with lightweight fabrics.
- If your design has photo-realistic imagery, this application may not be compatible without adjustments to your design.
- Puff print can have varying degrees of height and may be inconsistent between garments.
AFTERCARE
To preserve and get the most out of puff print:
- It is recommended that you wash it inside out with cold water.
- Do not use a tumble-dryer, hang dry if possible.
- Do not iron over the print.
