National Business Women’s Week began almost a hundred years ago, when the celebration was created in 1928 by Lean Madesin Phillips, president of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs. Ten years later, in 1938, the USA officially recognized the celebration, which takes place through the third full week of October.
At present, women own fifty percent of all privately owned businesses and employ almost 9 million people. Over the last five years, the number of women-owned businesses grew by 21 percent, compared to an average increase of only nine percent.
Within companies, women occupy 25 percent of key C-suite roles, but continue to be underrepresented among CEOs, where only six percent of positions are held by women.
What can you do to show your appreciation of professional women during National Business Women’s Week? We’ve got a few ways to make it clear you support the businesswomen in your life, from mentoring to gifts of custom women’s apparel.
- Recognize Achievements
National Business Women’s Week is an excellent time to recognize women who make a difference to your company. Recognition may take many forms, from a handwritten letter, a shout-out on social media, or a recognition of her achievements in front of the entire company, often accompanied by a gift such as a custom embroidered jacket.
Women’s achievements often go unnoticed, so take this opportunity to make it clear how much you appreciate what they bring to your organization.
2. Mentoring
As the small percentage of women in CEO positions indicates, women are still underrepresented in most business organizations. Mentoring an up-and-coming business woman helps her develop leadership skills and build her business network. If you’re an established business woman, mentoring the next generation of business women can be very rewarding.
3. Give a Gift to Show Your Appreciation
Work National Business Women’s Week into your branding and marketing campaigns by gifting custom women’s apparel to the women you work with, partner with, and otherwise rely on for business-related goals. The week falls at a point where winter is almost upon much of the USA, so why not consider giving a custom embroidered jacket? Women’s outerwear generates significant impressions over the course of its life, so a gift made now provides a high ROI for months after it’s received.
