How to Make Mother's Day 2019 One to Remember

Mother's Day is, well, kind of predictable for most moms. If she’s the mother of young children, mom gets breakfast in bed, handmade cards and some flowers picked from the garden and shoved into a glass. If her kids are older, she gets taken out to brunch and given flowers and greeting cards. It’s nice and all, but for Mother’s Day 2019, wouldn’t it be great to mix things up a bit and give mom a day to remember? Here’s a few ideas for Mother’s Day activities we think she’ll really enjoy.

Mothers Day Activities with Young Kids

Okay, planning Mother’s Day activities when kids are involved can be tricky--you want something that mom loves, but also need to keep the children entertained. Why not please both Mom and kids with a fun family outing? By all means, make her breakfast in bed, but then announce your plans for the day. Depending on mom’s personal preferences you could:

  • Play disc golf
  • Go to an amusement park
  • Hike or canoe
  • Learn a new skill together
  • Try karaoke with the kids
  • Go to the local zoo or park
  • Go boating
  • Have a picnic

If you really want to make Mother's Day 2019 a day to remember, make it a weekend instead. Plan a surprise weekend getaway as a family, either to go camping, relax at a resort, or explore a new city. If you're visiting somewhere busy with small kids, have a set of customized family T-shirts made to quickly spot when kids (and adults) wander off. Be sure to take plenty of pictures--moms’ value memories more than gifts.

Speaking of gifts, if your kids are school-aged they’ll probably be presenting mom with handmade presents. While a lump of clay that might be a cat or a coffee cup will have a special place in mom’s heart, that doesn’t mean you and the kids can’t surprise her with some more easily identifiable and personalized Mother’s Day gifts. We favor a custom-made “World’s Best Mom” coffee mug, customized stuffed animals, and board games to play as a family (add in some snacks and a family game day is a pretty great way to spend Mother’s Day 2019 if it’s gloomy outside). As a special treat, how about a personalized North Face Canyon Flats Stretch Poncho? It’s comfy reminder of how much mom’s loved.

Mothers Day Gifts from Older Children

When we’re young, mom is just mom. As you get older, you learn to see mom as the person behind the parent. Put this knowledge to use this Mother’s day and come up with Mother’s Day activities tailored to her personal interests. Choose something mom loves to do and make that the focus of Mother’s Day 2019. If she loves to clothes shop, explore some vintage stores together. If she gardens, visit a nursery or botanical garden. If she enjoys being pampered, have a spa day--either at a spa or at home.

Choose Mother’s Day gifts that reflect her interests. For some women, that means a good book, a glass of wine, and a seat in the sun. Is she an active outdoors-woman? If so a Baja Hydration Pack will help her enjoy her next hike. If she journals, help her take her diary into the digital age with a Moleskine Smart Writing Set. Or remind mom she’s still got it going on with a beautiful StormTech Women’s Classic Leather Jacket

Mother’s Day gifts and Mother’s Day activities don’t come in one-size-fits-all formats. For every mom who wants a relaxing day at the beach, there’s a mom who wants to go to a monster truck rally. It’s her day--make it one to remember!
