Decoration Spotlight: Woven Loop Tags

Custom woven tags are one of the hottest trends in branded marketing right now, and are ideal for when you want a subtle branding presence. They take up less space than more prominent embroidered or screen-printed logos, which tend to devolve into indecipherable smudges if shrunk to the size of a woven loop label.

What is a Woven Loop Label?

Custom woven tags are made from polyester or cotton threads woven into cloth labels. The threads are woven on a loom. The finished front of the weaving displays your logo, while thread work is visible on the back. To hide messy back threadwork, the tag is folded in half to form a loop, and the two ends sewn onto the garment.

Why Use Woven Labels With Logos?

A woven loop label offers a clean, finished look that provides exceptional detail in a small size. Embroidery and screen printing are arguably more popular branding choices, but the materials they use require a minimum logo size that can be overly large for some garment locations. The small size of a woven loop label means woven loop tags work well on hems, the corners of pockets, and similar compact sites too small for embroidery.

Custom woven tags have other advantages. As the loop tag is sewn onto the garment, it is compatible with most fabrics. This sets woven loop tags apart from customizing processes like screen printing, which does not work well with synthetic fabrics, or embroidery, which cannot be used with silk, rayon, or other thin materials.

Woven loop tags are highly durable and will last long after a screen-printed logo fades. In fact, woven tags will outlast most garment materials.

What are the Limitations of Custom Woven Tags?

Like any custom logo option, woven labels have their limitations. While capable of producing crisp, clear logos, a woven label cannot reproduce exceptionally fine details which may look better in larger formats, nor can the process support gradients or photo-realistic images. Logos with eight colors or less work best.

Woven loop tags cost more than printed labels, as the loop labels must be made on a loom. The extra set-up and application costs are worthwhile, however, due to the durability of the tags.

Where Should You Apply Woven Labels with Logos?

Custom woven tags tend to look best on the edges and hems of clothes. Popular woven loop tag locations include:

  • Sleeve cuffs
  • Bottom hems of shirts
  • Chest pockets
  • Pouch pockets
  • Top cuffs of beanies
  • Bottom hems of beanies
  • Hat Sides
  • Hat backs
